Legislative Advocate
Margie has established herself as one of the most detail-oriented and savvy policy experts in Sacramento. Her ability to dig deep into California’s most complex issues while navigating through challenging political realities provides Samson Advisors’ clients with unparalleled value as they seek to achieve their legislative and political objectives. Recent accomplishments include securing critical amendments for the food industry in a landmark food date labeling bill and preserving allowances for publicly owned utilities within the Cap-and-Invest reauthorization, amongst others.
Prior to joining Samson Advisors, Margie served as a Legislative Assistant to Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks), where she staffed the member on issue areas including business and professions, health, mental health, housing, natural resources, and environmental safety. Margie also provided budgetary analysis and developed the member’s communication strategies. Although she worked on a broad range of legislative proposals, she gained significant commendation for spearheading and managing AB 2440, the Responsible Battery Recycling Act, which created the largest extended producer responsibility (EPR) program for batteries in the country. In recognition for this effort and others, Margie was honored with a legislative excellence award from a prominent recycling group for her work in environmental policy.
Margie is an alum of the Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious fellowship programs, where she received a Graduate Certificate in Applied Policy and Government from Sacramento State University. She received her BA from the University of California, San Diego with a major in Political Science. She has also served three terms on the board of the nonprofit, the Asian Pacific Islander Capitol Association, including two terms as Lobbyist Liaison.
